Legal Assistance Seminars Hosted by REAP
The Nemaha County Business Assistance Team and REAP teamed up to host a Legal Aid for Small Business workshop on September 21, 2004 in Auburn. The seminar was well attended with approximately 30 participants from around the Nemaha, Johnson, Richardson, and Otoe county area.

The Siouxland Area Small Business Association paired with REAP to sponsor the legal training in South Sioux City on October 27, with 21 attending. A unique aspect of the South Sioux City session included an interpretation device provided for Hispanic audience members attending.

Presenter for the evening sessions was Steve Virgil, Attorney with Legal Aid of Nebraska and the Micro-Small Business Assistance Project. The presentation was designed to focus on legal issues impacting rural micro businesses. It was an open format for questions from the audience throughout as Virgil presented slides and discussed business entity selection, financing a new or expanding business, and employment law issues.

The Micro-Small Business Assistance Project is funded by a Rural Business Enterprise grant from USDA. Similar workshops are scheduled across the state, working in cooperation with REAP and its Women Business Center project.
