|A meeting was held in August, open to all minority small business owners. Those thinking of starting a business were also invited. The meeting was well attended, and many expressed the value of continuing this group. Topics of interest were discussed, as well as nominations for officer positions.
At the September meeting, the group decided on a name, elected officers, and determined the training topic for next month. An article ran in Mundo Latino newspaper to continue to attract and educate potential new members.
The new group is called the REAP Rural Business Roundtable of Asociación de Comercio Latino (Latino Business Association). Officers include:

Yolanda (Abril) Garcia, proprietor of South Sioux City-based Mundo Latino Newspaper, is a winner of the Anna Maria Arias Memorial Business Fund Award. Abril is one of 10 winners nationwide who each receive a $5,000 cash grant and an award in the name of Anna Maria Arias, one of the foremost champions of Latina entrepreneurship and professional development.
The award is sponsored by Wells Fargo & Company and LATINAStyle Magazine. Mundo Latino was REAP’s Small Business of the Year for 2003. Karen Linnenbrink, REAP Northeast Business Specialist nominated Abril for the honor.
