will offer business-related training to rural small
A series of training sessions dealing with business legal issues will be offered to REAP members by staff of Nebraska Legal Services. Through the “Micro-Small Business Assistance Project,” microenterprise operators in rural communities will have access to assistance with their legal questions.
The first step in accessing the Project’s services will be provided through 3-hour training sessions that cover a range of legal issues impacting rural micro and small business owners Each session is available to REAP members.
The sessions will cover: Choosing a Business Structure; Employment Law Issues for Small Business; Tax Law Questions; Understanding Commercial Leases; and Financing as Lender and Borrower. A general overview of each topic will be expanded and issues you should be aware of with your business will be explained.
Dates and locations for the training sessions are:
- August 18, 2004, McCook Community College, McCook
- September 21, 2004, Fairgrounds 4-H building, Auburn
- October 14, 2004, North Platte Community College, North Platte
- October 27, 2004, Cardinal Community Center, South Sioux City
- November 18, 2004, Offices of Nebraska Legal Services, Scottsbluff
The trainings are offered free of charge, although a nominal fee will be collected for materials. Following the training, business owners can arrange individual meetings with an attorney to discuss specific questions they might have.
The Micro-Small Business Assistance Project is funded by a Rural Business Enterprise grant from USDA. Nebraska Legal Services will offer additional trainings around the state in early spring.
