REAP NOTES

Advisory Meeting on Nov. 18
REAP will hold an Advisory Meeting on Tuesday, November 18, 2003, at 5:00 p.m. at the Community Room in Central City, Nebraska. The meeting will provide the latest information about REAP and provide an opportunity for input on new project approaches to delivery of services. Area Service Providers will be invited.

REAP associations in the region will be asked to send representatives to this meeting. Please provide your suggestions and concerns to the person who will be representing your association to share with REAP staff at that meeting.

REAP Members Invited to Annual Gathering
The Center for Rural Affairs Annual Gathering will take place at the school in Lyons, Neb. on Feb. 7, 2004. REAP Southeast Business Specialist Monica Braun is a participant on the planning team for this year’s meeting.

REAP members will be prominently featured at the gathering (formerly called the annual meeting). Early plans call for a “Small Business Fair” made up entirely of rural entrepreneurs. REAP annual awards are presented at the meeting as well.

Our popular informal, hour-long teach-ins sessions will cover a multitude of topics pertinent to rural communities and businesses. A reception at the Center’s new office building in Lyons will conclude the day’s slate of activities.

New Office Building for the Center for Rural Affairs, Located in Lyons. Neb.
The Center broke ground on our new Lyons, Neb. office building on June 6, 2003. Now, six months later, the building is nearing completion. Executive Director Chuck Hassebrook said of the effort,

“Construction of a new building demonstrates that we are committed to our work for the long haul. Rural America faces profound challenges. But if we are persistent we can create a better future for our communities, ourselves, and our children and grandchildren.”

The office move is scheduled to take place just before the Christmas holidays. Peggy Mahaney, REAP Administrative Assistant. is based from the Center’s main office. REAP members attending the Center’s Feb. 7 annual gathering will have an opportunity to see our new headquarters in Lyons.
